Michael V. Fox passed away on January 12, 2025 in Jerusalem. He was 84. He is survived by his wife Jane, sons Joshua and Ari, and grandchildren.

Michael V. Fox was an American biblical scholar and professor emeritus at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Born in 1940, he specialized in Hebrew and Semitic Studies with a focus on biblical wisdom literature. Fox earned his B.A. and M.A. from the University of Michigan in 1962 and 1963, respectively. He received rabbinical ordination from Hebrew Union College and completed his PhD in Biblical Studies and Egyptology from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 1972. He taught in Israel for several years before moving to the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 1977, where he retired as Halls-Bascom Professor of Hebrew from 1999 to 2010.

Fox has been recognized as a prominent scholar in biblical wisdom literature and served in leadership roles in academic societies, including President of the Society for Biblical Literature.
