About Us

The mission of the Mosse/Weinstein Center for Jewish Studies is to:

  • encourage cross-disciplinary conversations among individuals interested in Jewish Studies;
  • offer a wide variety of classes in areas within Jewish Studies for undergraduate and graduate students;
  • foster serious and creative research in Jewish Studies; and
  • promote the spirit of the Wisconsin Idea by using expertise to serve local, national, and international communities.

Through its course offerings and public events, the Center brings a broad range of disciplines to bear on Jewish and ancient Israelite history, religion, politics, society, and culture. Its faculty and staff have achieved national and international prominence for teaching and scholarship, and they are drawn from many departments (including Anthropology, Curriculum and Instruction, Education, English, German, Hebrew and Semitic Studies, History, Music, Philosophy, Political Science, Slavic Studies, Sociology, Theatre and Drama, and Law), ensuring an extraordinarily rich curriculum.
